Necessity of GDPR in Food Industry
This week will be discussing about General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its importance in the food industry. The manner in which food companies acquire, store and use data are evolving.
As to start with let’s first understand the concept and meaning of GDPR. The GDPR is a legislative structure laying down rules to gather and manage personal details from citizens living in the European Union (EU). The General Data Protection (GDPR) of the European Union sets down some strict regulations regarding the collection and maintenance of data of EU citizens in all companies, regardless of where they have their place of residence.
Consumer data has become the cornerstone of the restaurant business with businesses utilizing the details they have gathered for customer experience enhancement, engagement and more oriented advertisement strategies. And companies are able to use their consumer data in various and more efficient ways with the expansion of more adaptive and advanced technologies.
Many consumer data obtained from the restaurants are being used to retain existing customers but they should also consider their consumers far more loyal, even though they have enough details.
Thus, here are the five points that every restaurant needs to remember for a practical perspective as they are collecting customer information, they also need to provide a good customer experience in return.
- They must be accountable for whatever they mention in their privacy and policy.
- They need to identify the purpose of their legal law and processing.
- They need to provide a clear and affirmative consent to all the customers.
- They need to maintain a transparency and communication with their customers.
- They should avoid any kind of data breach for any kind of reputational or financial loss.
